Data & Databases
Data ingestion
Bringing data from one or more sources into a system for storage or processing.
Example
New support tickets are copied from the service platform into the warehouse.
Why it matters
It makes outside information available for storage and later use.
You'll hear it
“Some of yesterday's records never arrived.”
Can you control it?
Set by the team
The people building or running the AI choose this setup. An everyday user generally needs their help to change how this part works.
Common questions
- Does ingestion clean all the data automatically?
- Not necessarily. Receiving records and correcting them are different jobs.
- Can the same record arrive twice?
- Yes. Repeated deliveries or retries can create duplicates.
- Can arrival time differ from the event time?
- Yes. A record may describe something that happened much earlier.
