Timeout
A limit on how long software will wait for an operation before giving up.
Example
The application cancels a model request that has not responded after 30 seconds.
Why it matters
It stops software waiting indefinitely for a result that may never arrive.

“The app stopped waiting, but did the payment go through?”
Can you control it?
Sometimes
Sometimes. Some products or workflows let you influence a timeout, while others keep it fixed or manage it automatically. Check the settings and documentation for the tool you are using.
Common questions
- Does a timeout prove nothing happened?
- No. The remote action may finish even though the caller did not receive its result.
- Can a timeout be too short?
- Yes. Ordinary slow requests may be abandoned unnecessarily.
- Does a longer timeout fix the underlying problem?
- Not necessarily. It can simply leave users waiting longer for the same failure.
