RAG & Search

Metadata filtering

Restricting search results using attributes such as date, author, department, or document type.

Example

A filter limits results to policies owned by HR and updated this year.

Why it matters

It helps staff find current policies without sorting through outdated or unrelated documents.

You'll hear it

“Only include records updated this year.”

Can you control it?

Set by the team

The people building or running the AI choose this setup. An everyday user generally needs their help to change how this part works.

Common questions

Can an incorrect label hide a useful document?
Yes. If its date or category is wrong, a filter may exclude it.
Is filtering the same as checking access permission?
No. A relevance filter does not replace rules about who is allowed to see a record.
Can several filters leave no results?
Yes. Their combined restrictions may exclude everything, even when each filter seems reasonable alone.
