Automation & Workflows

Job

A discrete unit of work scheduled for a system or workflow to execute.

Example

A job generates and emails one customer's monthly statement.

Why it matters

It gives teams a manageable piece of work they can track, retry or schedule.

You'll hear it

“That job finished, but did it produce the file we needed?”

Can you control it?

Sometimes

Sometimes. Some products or workflows let you influence a job, while others keep it fixed or manage it automatically. Check the settings and documentation for the tool you are using.

Common questions

Is starting a job the same as completing it?
No. A job may be waiting, running, finished or failed after it has been accepted.
Can I cancel a job midway?
Some systems allow cancellation, but actions already completed may still need cleanup.
Can a failed job be retried safely?
Only if the system accounts for work already done, so repeating it does not cause unwanted duplicates.
