Automation & Workflows

Queue

A waiting line of tasks to be processed in order or according to priority.

Example

Support requests wait in a queue until an available worker handles them.

Why it matters

It helps a service cope with busy periods without trying to do everything at once.

You'll hear it

“The request is waiting, not lost.”

Can you control it?

Sometimes

Sometimes. Some products or workflows let you influence a queue, while others keep it fixed or manage it automatically. Check the settings and documentation for the tool you are using.

Common questions

Does first in always mean first out?
No. Some queues give urgent tasks priority or separate different types of work.
Can a task remain stuck indefinitely?
Yes, if nothing processes it or other work repeatedly takes priority. Waiting-time checks can reveal this.
Should a user send the request again while it waits?
Usually it is better to check its status first, so another copy does not create duplicate work.
